A
CREDIBLE leader is an
asset to the nation. The Oxford Advanced
Learner’s Dictionary, new 8th
Edition (2010) defines the word credible as “can be believed or trusted”. A leader
is a person who leads a group of people, especially the head of a country or an
organization.
We can say that a credible leader is
someone who advances the lives of his followers as well as the system they live
in. He may not even have a formal title.
The real test for this chosen or
elected leader is to see whether his followers will follow his words or orders.
Notwithstanding other leadership qualities, he should be a trustworthy person.
A leader of this nature would make it
easy for the masses to believe in him. It means that there is a consistency
between who he is and what he says.
He doesn’t hide anything from his followers or beat around
the bush with them.
A credible leader is also a person of
integrity. It is defined as the quality of being honest and having strong moral
principles.
A distinctive example of a person of the
highest integrity was the Prophet Muhammad. During his time, he was known as al-Amin, which means the trustworthy
one.
A credible leader has no skeletons in
his closet, making his opponents or enemies will feel frustrated because they
will find it very difficult to discredit him.
In order to be a good and credible
leader in the 21st century, one has to have knowledge on business
and finance. The world revolves around these factors.
We crave for leaders who are better off
than us.
It is annoying when we hear a leader
giving his speech on a subject that he has very little knowledge of. He is just
talking. He doesn’t respect the educated audience who are attending his
function.
A credible leader should exhibit high
ethical standards. He knows how to differentiate between what is the right and
wrong.
He has a clean image and is free from
perceived sexual scandal or corruption, which may also include abuse of power. A
leader must also be a good family man.
When you do your job with enterprise
and strength of mind to make a difference to the people around you, then you
are a credible leader. If you possess the above criteria, then you are an asset
to the nation.
