Kerinduan pada 6M1-1964

Assalamualaikum,

Kelas 6M1, Sultan Sulaiman Primary School 2, Kuala Terengganu, 1964
[Gambar ihsan Tengku Aziz Muda]

Rindu pada ALLAH adalah yang pertama
Kita memasuki syurga insya-Allah di atas belasNya;
Rasulullah dirindui sehinggalah kita mati

Kuih istimewa Terengganu pulut lepa
Tidaklah semanis kuih tepung pelita
Sedikit rindu padanya rasa tidak mengapa
Sekadar beberapa titik bberaa air mata

Classmates memang mengenali perangai saya
Mungkin sudah lupa akan wajah muka
Di dalam kelas saya tergulung yang muda
Terimalah kehadiran saya yang kerdil ini seadanya

Puisi Kasih Untuk 6M1-1964

Assalamualaikum,

Terima kasih, 6M1-1964. Ia merupakan sebahagian dari memori yang indah dalam hidupku.

6M1-1964 adalah Darjah 6 Malay 1 di Sultan Sulaiman Primary School 2, Kuala Terengganu pada tahun 1964.

Daku tidaklah pandai bermadah

Cerita persekolahan ke udara sudah

Kepada Ilahi tanganku menadah

Syukur 6M1-1964 semuanya indah

Si dia comel dan bersopan

Kadangkala sempat cakap berdepan

Ramai jejaka cuba bersiulan

Daku gagap tidak sepadan

Berpuluh tahun tidak berjumpa

Dengan 6M1-1964 hampir terlupa

Tentunya tiada pernah sapa

Tertulis begitu tidak mengapa

6M1-1964 berlalu aman sejahtera

Agak besar bilangan keluarga

Mendengar ceritanya daku gembira

Kurnian ALLAH sangat berharga

Hamba mengakhiri puisi simple ini

6M1-1964 belum menjelma dalam mimpi

Bimbang jika ditakdirkan bersua nanti

Air mata lebat mengalir di pipi

The Good Old Days

Assalamualaikum,

FIFTY-FOUR years ago, in 1962, I enrolled in an English-medium school in Kuala Terengganu. The Sultan Sulaiman Primary School 2 was a popular co-educational school as it was the only English medium school in town. The numeric 2 signified that it was the afternoon session.

We started school in the class, named Special Malay Class 1 (SMC1), an equivalent to Standard Four curriculum. We continued into SMC 2 the following year and finally completed our primary school education in 6 Malay 1 (6M1) class.

There were about forty pupils in each class. I remember Class 6M1 better as the then class teacher was Mr. Tay Soo Hock. He is very much a healthy senior citizen today.

After 50 years, it is only appropriate for me to compose a poem to remember the good old primary school days.

Fifty-four years ago in a small town
Kuala Terengganu was not yet popularly known
We enrolled in Sultan Sulaiman Primary School Two
Without really knowing what we’re supposed to do.

Class SMC1 as it was called then
An equivalent to Standard Four without any dent
Learning to write and speak English was such a pleasant
Back home, we could see smiling faces of our parents.

In Class SMC2 we were more confident
We learnt the names of flowers in the school’s garden
Completing homework was no longer a burden
About money, the teacher taught us to be prudent.

Class 6M1 was the best label
The Class Teacher Tay Soo Hock was an angel
We improved the skills in writing as well as verbal
Relationship between classmates was at the highest level.

We used to meet one another at an ad hoc basis
As if there’s a get-together crisis
This difficult-to-meet episode will no longer exist
In May 2016 we shall meet and will persist.

My poem for TAY SOO HOCK

Assalamualaikum,

Mr. Robert Tay Soo Hock was our Class Teacher for "Class 6M1" at Sultan Sulaiman Primary School 2 (SSPS2) in Kuala Terengganu, 1964.

This poem is dedicated to him.

The time was fifty two years ago

A half century though

Unheard of the words proud or ego

With school friends we can always borrow

Robert Tay Soo Hock, sir

We were your pupils for sure

It is really a small world

Sweet memories come lingering there and here

You’re an excellent Class Teacher by any standard

Now all your pupils are retired

We are still healthy and young at heart

Perhaps last time we did things right

Now technology brings us closer together

There’s no reason to be a poser

Along the way we may be sombre

They were things of the past and are no longer applicable

Mr. Tay dear teacher

We love you over and over

Compared to money, health is richer
We remain as 6M1-1964 Alma Mater
